Is there any kind of editor/creator that I could use to maybe design my own hexlegs(non Ses but just a custom “shin bone”) to give the hex that little extra flair. that would come for a reasonable price( under $40 I hate budget ) thanx
Hydro,
You can get eMachineShop’s cad software for FREE. This is the same software that I used to design my bot head. Keep in mind that if you use their services to make your design, it will be expensive, and their files are somewhat proprietary meaning you would have to find some one that is willing to convert the exported DXF files to a usable format.
For 2D designs, the DXF export should be fine, for 3D designs, someone would have to tweak the DXF to a usable format, since eMachineShop does not export 3D data.
You can get the free program and begin to practice today at:
I recommend going through the two tutorials to get up to speed, which is what I did first starting out.
After some practice you can make brackets and other flat designs like this:

eMachine really is great.
If you are just looking to design parts to see how they’ll look, that’s very easy.
Actually designing the parts comes intuitively, as it’s set up a lot like MSPaint and other drawing programs.
The only real difficult part about eMachineShop is refining your design so that it’ll be cheap to have them make.
However, for your purposes, you won’t be needing to do that
thanx guys I really enjoy the help… now to go try out the super cAD!!! I have always wanted to use this stuff.
also how exactly do you specify the dims? this is probably a really stupid question.
well I tryed to down load the emachineshop software ( I love the way they go aobut having parts made BTW) and I saved it ot a file in my computer, left my browser with it running with the download screen for the internet, and when I tryed to open/install the software from the file I saved it as on the computer harddrive, it says it can not complete installation because of something about it ccannont complete the disired pathway or something. I know I have at least 3 times as much hardware spaceas I need… can someone please help me out I can not wait to have this thing ready to use so that I can make my own custom paarts like all the other super robo gurus on the forum :so impatient:
If the install file is not corrupted, I would try to re install the software, but this time use the default paths provided during the install. If the Install executable does not work then try to re-download the file again.
:crying: I downloaded the file 3 times withall the svarious options, like open or save? one with each nothing is working
Can you post the exact error message?
Or, if it’s a long message, you can press Prt Sc (Print Screen), on your keyboard and it will copy an image of the screen to your clipboard.
Then you can paste that in MSPaint, save it, and then upload it to the forums.
“something about it ccannont complete the disired pathway or something” isn’t much to work with.
It was my labtop, I tryed it on the desktop and it worked prety well. but hte price file that it needs to download won’t work because my desktop is not connecteed to the net. AAHHHH!! I can still use the program but it own’t let me select the machine to use, which means I can’t get a price quote… but also, I have the flat overveiw version made, but how do I turn that into a 3-d image? does anybody have a price file I can download and then just stick it in the right file on the desktop? thanx.
The custom peice I am dsigning is just a decorative plate that willl give the bot that evil world domination look!!
also I am trying to use the HUB-09 inside the tubing connector and connect the flat side to the leg peice with a weld joint or JB weld or something like that, then I was going to use another HUB-09 with the roundside connected to the legpeice and the flat side stuck into a stock rubber boot equipped with Jim’s foot sensor located on the ground contact sensor thread. will this work? I am concerned if the HUB-09 will fit snugly with a grubscrew into the tubing connector.
ohh thought! what if I just took the stock bolt on leg with the ground contact sensor and just welded or bonded the custom legpeice onto the stock leg peice? would that look better ? it would definitely be simpler
Thank you for the info.
I am so impatient.
well, to get a 3D image u go to the menu at the top of the screen and go into View then click 3D image, or you could click on the red pyramid near the top of the screen
o yea, there is also tutorials on the Emachine shop website which can help you learn
emachineshop.com/audio/flywheel.htm
thats the link
and yea the hub will probably fit in the tubing cause in the servo erector set it uses the hub in the tubing in the “walking stick”, actually as im looking at it, it looks like the tubing will only fit on the Hub-08, but u can use that as a replacement…right? and yes there is a screw to connect the hub and tubing
o yea, you should look at wat you can do with the SES before u do any weld joints or JB welds, and if u cant find anything about it, then u can always talk to the people here for help
I clicked on the 3-D image button “little red pyramid on the toolbar” but when the little window pops up all I get is a blank black screen. must keep troubleshooting!
i wish i could get on to emachine shop to help you out and see wat the problem might be, but my brother is on the computer with emachine shop and he wont switch with me http://www.outlawrc.com/smilie-misc019.gif
it could be that the backround color is the same as the part…not sure, hopefully someone else can jump and and help out here
Ok,
To see a rendering of your design you need to select
- Select a material (any aluminum)
- Draw a box
- select line machine (try Mill-3-axis)
- set thickness to 2mm
- Then try to view it by clicking the pyramid
Let me know what happens
thank you so much Sn96 I tryed that and when I went to click on material and depth and all that good stuff, it makes a window pop up that prompts me to download a pricefile but since my desktop which is the only computetr it would work on is not connected to the internet and the laptop is connected but won’t install the gosh darned thing I am in quite a predicament. It won’t let me select machine/material/thickness or anything like that required to do three D unless I have That Price file, that is what it seems like to me. pant pant (out of digital breath) thanx again so much I am finally starting to understand this!!
hydro, have u looked at the tutorials yet? they really do help a lot, they are nice and explainatory too
hydro, im curious, wat exactly is this custom leg going to look like?
hehehe funny story, I would show you but I don’t know how to get the image from my laptop desktop onto the post, it is not a Dxf it is just a really rough microsoft paint jpg format image.
extremely rough.
