Buying a New Robot

Hello all!

I am just about to make the big purchase - but theres some information im missing that I would like answers for.

The kit I want to get is the:

“CH3-R Combo Kit for Bot Board/SSC-32/BAP28 and PS2 Controller”

lynxmotion.com/showproduct.a … controller

My questions are:

a) Is this the only product i need to buy, in order to have a fully working and controlled robot when I am finished construction/setup?
b) If not, which other products do I need? Im thinking, batteries?
c) Is the Servo upgrade (for another few hundred dollars) worth it in the long run?

Thank you very much, i hope to join the community of hexapodites very soon

hi and welcome.

well lets take a look:
Includes
Aluminum Hexapod 3-R Body Kit - Round Full Size (Black) (HBKR-BLK)
3 x 3DOF Alum & Lexan Leg Pair (Black) (3DOFC-BLK)
18 x HS-485HB (83 oz. in.) Standard Servo (S485HB)
Bot Board II (ABB-01)
BASIC Atom Pro 28 (BAP-02)
SSC-32 Servo Controller (SSC-32)
DB9 Serial Data Cable (DB9-02)
Sony Playstation Controller Cable (PS2C-01)

you would be correct in thinking you will need batterys. you will also need a wireless ps2 remote.

then you will have everything you need.

regarding the upgrade. the 485’s will work well enough for this robot. the 485’s are an upgrade from the 475’s that Hitec have stopped making. i shredded some of my 475’ but the upgraded 485’s have more torque and i haven’t damaged one yet.
for the long run, i would be tempted to “upgrade” to the 645’s these servos are ideal for these hexapods, and if you plan to add additional things to your Hexapod then an upgrade would be best.

hope this helps.

Thanks innerbreed  Your robots have inspired me to do this

I have one more question however;

In terms of the batteries, what are the minimum, recomended and maximum battery sizes/charge that the CH3-R needs?

Thanks again

I think i have solved the battery problem, and ordered 6.0 Volt Ni-MH 2800mAh Battery Pack - Model Number: BAT-05

6.0 Volt Ni-MH 2800mAh Battery Pack will be fine.

thanks for the comment and thanks for following.
