I’d like to get into electronics a bit more and create my own boards. Essentially my goal is to remake the Mini-ABB and then make a SSC-32. This isn’t to sell them, I’d just like to make something similar to these to get experience and see what it takes to make one.
Designing your own electronic circuits can be very challenging. There are so many parts on the market for one, and you need to have at least a basic understanding of electronics to design even the simplest designs.
I designed my own sensor board that reacts to sound, produces speech, senses tilt and a port for the PING sensor all on one board. That project would have been impossible without the close help of 3 people. I had the idea and sketched out a rough schematic and the schematic was optimized dozens of times. I made a bread board to test part of the circuit to make sure the design worked before going on to design a PC board.
I used EagleCad Lite to design the board and then generated Gerber files to send to a Fab House via BatchPCB.com There is another easy to use Fab House called ExpressPCB, but it does not use air wires or have auto rout which can take longer to design a board with more room for potential errors.
