Building an RC Truck

Hi, i am a student in industrial electronics at Vanier college. I am break between semesters and I wanted to something fun.

I have a metal toy truck that is 1.6 Kg and I want to convert it into a RC truck. I have done some researching on how I would convert it. I found the wheels I want to use:

I’m kind of stuck at what motors I need to use and how to mount them on.

Here are some pics

Hope to hear from someone :sunglasses:

We would suggest 4x GHM gear motors with 6mm diameter shafts. You can determine which is best for your application based on the weight of the truck (in addition to the added wight of four DC gear motors, electronics and a battery), using our Drive Motor Sizing Tool. Something like the GHM-12 may be of interest. In order to mount the wheel to the motor, you’d need RB-Lyn-218.

To mount the motors to the truck, you can simply drill new holes in the metal (put a block of wood between the sides so the metal does not bend when you drill it). Position the wheels slightly closer together to make turning easier. To control the motors, you would need a dual DC motor controller with RC input. Something like the Sabertooth would work well.

Last, a 12V battery and charger, as well as the R/C system itself. If the robot does not last long enough, opt for two batteries. WH-01 will also be useful.
