Building an electric can crusher - need help with electrical

I am trying to build a can crusher. I do not know the type of motor I would need ir the additional electrical parts needed. I found some finished product on YouTube but not the instructions. I would like this electrical and not using compressed air.

What would be the best motor to use?
What other electrical parts would I need?
Would there be a way to have a motor but also use a drill to power the device?

Hi @Tcasperson ,

I would assume that you could use some DC brushed low RPM high torque motor. But I don’t have any idea how much torque you need for this. If possible, try to do some calculations, and if not, then testing motors in real life scenario would give you some answers.

Also, I think “transmission” or “gear” system between the motor and the “tooling” is also important.

For other electrical parts, I guess you would need power supply (or battery), and some buttons or switches to turn on/off the machine. Maybe also a safety switch if something goes wrong?

To use the motor and drill in parallel, probably you would have to use some kind of clutch mechanism, so you can switch from one motor to another.

But, if you have some electric drill, maybe you can start from that? Design and create a crushing system based on that drill, test it in real life how it works, and then try to replace it with the motor.
