Building a walking robot

Hi

First of all I am new at this. Please be patient.
I am trying to build a walking robot for my son’s school project.Yes I have an idea what I am have to do.My plan is for the robot to walk forward and backward to start off as a beginner and to build/add on as I become more confident.
However I need some advice.

I am looking at the Lynxmotion ssc-32 sequencer software coupled with the Lynxmotion ssc-32 servo controller.I intent to use 10 servo motors. I planning to buy the Bluesmirf , a bluetooth modem to attached to the Lynxmotion ssc-32 servo controller and Usb bluetooth for the the computer side also known as a dongle to have a remote/independent robot.

The question is, do I need to buy servo motor controllers as well.
If yes please explain.
How many servo motor controllers would I need.

Thank you
All the best
Gasant

Hi Gasant,

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum.

The whole point of an education is so that your son learns and shows off what he is capable of, not what you created for him. Anyway…

The SSC-32 is a servo motor controller, and you can connect a Bluetooth module directly to the Tx and Rx pins without the need for a separate microcontroller. You only need the one SSC-32. The issue is that the computer will need to be sending the information / walking algorithm to the SSC-32 since it has no onboard intelligence (the computer becomes the “brain”).

Hope this helps,
