Congrats on getting your goodies! What camera did you get? I am dying to get a Canon G7 T_T
Its fairly hard to mess up putting a computer together. The CPU, ram, pci, agp, and pci-e can only be inserted one way.
When you insert the RAM press down firmly and make sure you hear two snaps, one for each side. If you dont then the ram is not in all the way and you’ll get errors.
When you boot for the first time and want to install your OS make sure to go into the BIOS and set the boot order to:
CD
floopy
HDD
or any order really but CD first so it can boot from the install disk
As for the hard drive… 200GB is good. I would recommend getting a 320GB or a 500GB they have a much better GB/$ ratio than a 200GB drive.
Seamus. You got it all wrong. You need to put a minimum of 15 screens into the case. Make sure to put like 5 on the very bottom where you cant see them so they can play 24/7 and waste your power. Then put one large one in the front and like 4 tiny small ones around it. Then put another 5 on the side panel. Again, with a very large one in the middle and 4 around it. Make sure they alll play exactly the same feed to make it even more pointless.
You got it all wrong dude, your supposed to put in 12 500GB Hard drives…how much is that…let me see,500 + 500…wait,or i could just to 12 * 500…I think a couple thousand GB,what do you guys think?

No, more like p-p-p-parties[/size]
Your joke was bad, wow… Yea. Just get a 320GB hdd its a better ratio than a 200GB HDD. Man, I remember when I bought my 80GB IDE HDD a few years ago for like $70. Now its $80 for 320gb. jeeze prices fall.
I used the Mainboard manual for all the wiring so this should be alright. It is what I was mostly concerned about, I know how to install the RAM drives ect myself.
Thanks for the tip about drive orders RD6.
Im putting up all the pics now, since Im trusting WOWY7 won’t QUOTE THIS!
Ps. my digital camera is a kodak easy share from geeks.com
It was a joke, didn’t you see the " " at the end of the sentence?
PS Sorry about the spamming,i will stop now.
anyways, pretty nice job for your first time.
Hard drives should be bought OEM… You don’t need to pay $10-30 extra for a box and a CD. The software can be downloaded for free from their site and burned onto a 10c CD.
Italianguy, redo your ram sticks. The second one is not in all the way. Also, make sure to remove the motherboard from the case when you are installing the CD and heatsink. You will need to apply a lot of pressure to get the heatsink on. It might crack the mobo if the mobo is on standoffs.
OH, and for the love of god, do some cable management!!
This is the best I can do since a few of my fan wires had to be extended with servo wire connectors. Also, one of the 80mm fans I have only has a red a black wire (no yellow/signal) becuase it is an old power supply fan. I connected it to the board. Is it safe? Basically there is no yellow wire connected to the board just power and ground. Just want a second opinion on this.
Yea. Its totally safe. The yellow cable is the RPM so that the BIOS and software can adjust the fan speed.
I know the case is $15 and it looks fugly but i’m not talking about that. I’m talking about the fans. Try to avoid cases with 80mm fans… They are very loud and dont push as much air as 120mm fans. Get a case with 120mm fans and upgrade to medium or high yate loon fans.
You also have a fan directly over the CPU socket which is not good,i hope your not planning on leaving the wire hanging over the socket like that,it could Either A : Jam the fan and make the processor over heat or B : Get tangled up in the fan and caused the CPU to over heat.
When the CPU + heatsink + fan are installed their is no way that wire is going to fit there. This is why I extended it with a servo cable and tied it there for the moment.
Theres no bloody way for the wires to hit the CPU fan. He can always put the wires under the heatsink or above it and tie it with zipties. Or get a fan grill if hes anal.
