Building a 3D Copy = Star Trek Replicator machine

Hi guys, I will need your help to convert my (still in developing stage) MakiBox 3D printer into a 3D Copy machine. A 3D Copy machine should allow one to place an object into the machine, select how many copies to be printed, scan the object and start printing the copies. Here is what I was thinking:

- use the David Laserscanner technique to create an image of the object

- install a turntable under the printing surface to rotate the object while scanning

- use a stepper or servo to move up-down the laser line to scan the object

- use a webcam to read the images

- use a Raspberry Pie board with Linux and all the needed software (need help on selecting the software and writing the processing scripts)

I know there are many LMR members that use Linux and have a 3D printer. I have started to look into setting up an old laptop with a Linux distro to install the needed software that a 3D printer needs to be able to do prints. I will also be experimenting with the David Laserscanning technique to see what needs to be done and how can it be automatized with scripts. I need all the input you guys can give me as long with what you find in your own experiments on how to create the scripting for such a machine. I might be out of my mind, this thing might not be even possible at the moment, but I hope it will soon be. Perhaps if all the great minds of LMR work at it together, we will be able to do it.

Thanks guys!

Little bit o input

David3d doesn’t work with linux, the last I knew.
