Hi,
I am interested in building my 1st robot. I am interested in the arduino components and which to have a robot that has a claw arm and the basic base structure. I would also like to have the remote hard wired on to the robot. Can you help me out with what parts I should start with. I would like to try to keep my purchase in the $300.00 range.
You might consider a LEGO starter kit. If you only want something remote controlled which can pick up objects, you only need something like the Beetle robot kit. There is also the option of the Stacker Robot Chassis (additional parts required). If you want something programmable (Arduino), then there are not many robots which include a claw / arm, so you’ll need to design and build your own (a robot arm alone costs about $300).
How much of the robot do you want to design and create yourself vs purchasing a kit? For example the RobotShop Rover includes everything you need, and a claw kit can be added to it:

I am interested in buying a whole kit if possible. But I don’t want to spend over $300.00 including remote control. Can I buy the 2wd stacker and make modifications to it or do I need something else? I would like something that will pick up tennis balls, ping pong balls, lego blocks and AA batteries. Any suggestions?
