BT-01 Humanoid Biped Torso and HS-485 servos PARTS DON'T FIT

BT-01 Humanoid Biped Torso with HS-485 servos - PARTS DON’T FIT!!!

Received my Lynxmotion order yesterday, and the parts do not fit together.

I purchased 4 HS-485 Servos, BT-01 Humanoid Biped Torso and a bunch of other parts.

I wanted to build the top 1/2 of a Humanoid Robot to place on my Lynxmotion Tri-track Chassis.

Problem is, I can’t install 3 HS-485 servos across the top of the Torso, in the Shoulder, Head, Shoulder positions.

When HS-485 servos are placed in the Shoulder positions, there is NO ROOM to fit a servo in the head position, it just won’t work, there physically is not enough space.

The most annoying part of my problem is that, I just did a forum search to figure out if I was doing something during assembly or bought the wrong parts , and I found out Lynxmotion knows about this problem:

lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7341

The trouble is, no one at Lynxmotion followed through on this problem, there are NO WARNINGS or NOTES that these parts don’t fit together on these pages.

I hope, I can work with someone at Lynxmotion, to quickly resolve this problem, to my satisfaction.

Zappman

HiTech changed the servos a little.

What assy guide are you using?

I use spacers in an ASB-213 bracket with the new 485 and 1424 servos, I don’t know if it helps here.

Larger servos seem to keep the the previous dimensions, at least for now. Try a 645?

yes the HS-485 are the replacement for the HS-475’s now discontinued by Hitec.

I’m not sure that changing the product to accommodate this small error would be the way to go. As mentioned Hitec has discontinued the servo so the next best thing would be to use a washer under each servo tab, thus lifting the servo out, and making enough room for the arrangement. or as i mentioned in the posted link "one way to reduce the length of the casing is to remove the back plate, sand it down from the inside edge and then place it back on again.

If you are unhappy then i would suggest you do what’s best for you, but personally i would find away around it.

Im sure this problem will be dealt with.

Don’t worry we will fix it. I do not know the details as I’m at home, but we will adjust the parts and send you new panels. This is nothing to get upset about. A simple oversight. Relax…

Ok zappman prepare to have your issues quickly resolved to your satisfaction.

I’m making the changes to the parts so they will be able to use the 485.

Hi Jim.

Thanks for the fast response!

Did a lot of assembly on my robot over the weekend.

The Bi-Ped Torso has been mounted on a Base Rotate Kit which is mounted on my Tri-Track, using the parts from my AL5B robotic arm kit.

Once, I receive the updated Torso Panels my Robot will get his head.

look forward to see a photo.

It’s Monday… I did get the parts redesigned and built it up. I need to make some fine tuning and will ship it to you tomorrow. I did make some cool changes. Hold on there…

I can’t wait to see what the cool changes are!

I am using the pair of spacer holes on the very bottom of torso to connect to my robot. I hope they are, approximately in the same location.

Since you are going to be shipping me a package, I have been reviewing what other Lynxmotion parts I am missing to assemble my robot.

So I have some questions about the following parts:

 1. Can I purchase a “Tri-track Bottom Lexan Plate”, I want to add an extra deck to my Tri-track Chassis, if so what is the cost?

 2. Will the Aluminum Long “C” 755HB/MG Servo Bracket (SKU: ASB-203) work with a Hitec HS-700BB servo , if so can I buy just 1 instead of a pair?

 3. Will the Aluminum Multi-Purpose 755HB/MG Servo Bracket (SKU: ASB-201) work with a Hitec HS-700BB servo , if so can I buy just 1 instead of a pair?

 4. Aluminum Offset Servo Bracket with Ball Bearings Two Pack (SKU: ASB-11), can I buy just 1 instead of a pair?

I may have some more questions, depending on your answers.

Should I be asking these questions in an e-mail vs. here on the forums?

zappman

Hi zappman,

The panels are redesigned and we are ready to ship them to you. Please send me a PM with the address you want us to use. Unfortunately we are not able to sell the Lexan parts separately. I do not know if the HS-755 brackets will fit the HS-700 servo. I do not have an HS-700 to try it. Unfortunately we are not able to sell single units that are packaged in pairs.

Hi Jim,

Just sent you a PM with the ship to address for the Humanoid Biped Torso.

Thanks for answering my parts questions.

Its really a shame there is no way to purchase an add on deck for the Tri-Tracks, it would be nice to have a way to mount some parts above the motors. When I get to that part of my build I will make a custom plate.

Thanks for your excellent, fast response, solving this problem.

I look forward to receiving the replacement parts.

Hi Everyone,

Here is the first picture of “Tri-Track Pete” (that is the best name I have come up with so far, I am open to suggestions).
This picture was taken using the problem BT-01 Humanoid Biped Torso.
The head assembly (pan & tilt with Ping Sensor) is just Kludged on until the new improved BT-01 Humanoid Biped Torso arrives from Lynxmotion.
I have a “Robot Hand - A Single” Model Number: RH-01 to be placed on the arm with no hand, once I acquire a servo & a couple brackets.
This is just the first test configuration to see how the robot might look. I am open to suggestions to improve looks and operation of this robot.
I used 3 pieces of Mecco band Erector Set along with some nuts & nuts to mount the Torso to the servo bracket it is attached to.

This is my first build of a robot this big.

 Excellent work Jim, I am a very happy camper!!!

Received the replacement panels today 11/11/11, the HS-485 servos now FIT PERFECT in the BT-01 Humanoid Biped Torso.
That new 8) “cool” 8) special feature you added works great, thanks for adding it.

You have exceeded my exceptions, in resolving my problem.

OK, spill the beans, what’s the new “cool” special feature?

Glad it’s all fitting together for you now.

Alan KM6VV

Hi KM6VV,

The new “cool” special feature is a “Double SES Hole Pattern” that can be used to mount the torso.
In the picture below, you can see 4 silver screws in the lower portion of the new pattern.
The picture shows the Head “Pan Servo” fits correctly in the revised Torso Assembly.
You can also see, I have raised the Base Rotate Assembly using 1 1/4 inch standoffs.

The picture below shows a rear view of the robot.
At the very bottom you can see a 9.6V Lithium Ion Battery Pack.

The picture below shows the protective cover I have mounted over the electronics mounted on the robot deck plate.
The plate is shiny black part of the robot is reflected in it.
In the future I will probably make a new wider plate that also covers the motors.

The Picture below shows the Sabertooth 2x5 Motor Controller and Propeller Robot Control Board with XBEE Radio installed.

Very cool. Love it. Jim you did a nice job with the new part. Zappman, you must post a video of this bad boy.
