Hey guys this is my first post and I am a noob at robots. This is why I need your help. I am intending on getting a brat robot kit soon (the ps2 one). What electronics come with it? The ssc-32? Also, how hard would it be for a noob like me to add an extra degree of freedom to each leg so that the robot could turn in place and not have to slide to turn? Would the stock electronics be able to handle 8 servos? Finally, how hard is it to build this robot and program it to walk and be controlled by a ps2 controller?
Thanks in advance for your help,
-Nick
Hi Nick, welcome. For more information on a kit click on the product name in the category screen. You should see a āincludedā at the bottom of the screen with the parts that are included in the kit.
For information on building or programming click on Assembly Guides and Tutorials. lynxmotion.com/driver.aspx?Topic=assem02
After you have the kit operational then we can talk about adding DOfās to the legs.
Well it says bot board 2 so would it be a good idea to upgrade to the ssc-32 or is it pointless? Would I need to upgrade to add an extra DOF to each leg? Also, it says no electronics but then it says it comes with bot board 2 and basic atom pro 28 pin. Arenāt those the electronics? What electronics does it not come with and do I need to buy them?
EDIT: Just answered two of my questions. The bot board 2 can handle 20 servos so I donāt need to upgrade.
Ok slow down and think about this for a minuteā¦ If we are to offer a robot packaged with different electronics, wouldnāt it make sense to start with a robot without electronics, then add the electronics you want?
But I thought it came with everything you needed to make it walk. Donāt you need electronics to make it walk?
Take a close look here.
Why wonāt you just give a straight answer to a noob like me?
Hi and welcome Nick,
I think they are trying to be helpful and answer your questions. They were trying to show you what is included in the kits.
For now I am assuming that you brand new and have nothing and are asking what is everything you need to order to have a Brat walk around, that you wish to control by a PS2. You are also asking what it would take to add another degree of freedom to itā¦
Part 1:
PS2 Brat: lynxmotion.com/p-713-biped-b ā¦ black.aspx
Optional (upgrade to 645 servos so servos are maybe powerful enough to add another DOF: lynxmotion.com/p-536-brat-se ā¦ k-645.aspx
PS2 Controller: lynxmotion.com/p-552-ps2-rob ā¦ oller.aspx
Battery: lynxmotion.com/p-331-60-volt ā¦ -pack.aspx
Charger for Battery: lynxmotion.com/p-602-60-12vd ā¦ arger.aspx
USB to serial Adapter (unless your computer has a real serial port): lynxmotion.com/p-699-usb-to- ā¦ cable.aspx
I think the above should get you up and running. You can also add pan/tilt, sensors and the like.
As for adding another degree of freedom to the legs. it can be done. The nice thing about SES components is you are free to rearrange them in whatever form you wish. However the more DOF you add, the more weight you add, which implies the stronger servos you will need (like 5645 or better). Look at Biped Scout or the Lynx 209 or ā¦ There are several examples up on the forums of different leg designs.
If it were me, I would start off with the Brat, but with the best servos I could afford and then see if you want or need to add a DOF (or two) and then investigate the different designs.
I hope this helps and good luck.
Kurt
