BRAT Problems

We have a BRAT robot and we encountering problems. At first the servos down one leg were unresponsive and now but legs appear to be unresponsive. Only a small LED light titled “D1” lights up on the SSC-32. Even when “All 1500” is pressed in the Lynx Term program, there is no response.

The following is some pictures of the BRAT and the SSC-32: (picture may not appear, follow link)

Ok, you’ve got number of problems here, let’s see what we can do…

1st: Fix your power cable. That thing is gonna short something out and unleash the magic smoke if you’re not careful.

2nd: All of your servos are plugged in backwards. The yellow wire needs to be closest to the middle of the board.

3rd: The jumpers on VS1=VS2 are sideways. They need to be vertical when looking at the board when you can read SSC-32.

Expanding on James number 1. The heavy wiring harness wires must be completely inside the terminals. If you twist them tightly and inspect the terminal is completely open they will fit inside the terminal. You have bare wires coming out of the terminals. If the battery is connected and the power switch is turned on, there is a very real possibility the battery can catch fire! Take the time to fix this first!

Thank you those who replied. Following up on one of the replies: “3rd: The jumpers on VS1=VS2 are sideways. They need to be vertical when looking at the board when you can read SSC-32.”, how is it that I put the VS1=VS2 vertical? Do I just turn it?

Take the jumpers out of the board. Turn them 90°. Put them back in.
