BotBoard + Basic Micro Pro 28 Problem

Hi All,

I just buy a set of BotBoard + Basic micro Pro 28.
I have plug power to it, connect my serial cable and with
the programming software i can’t program. I have follow
the instruction on lynxmotion website.

The board is making a reset noise each second and 3 led blink.
When i try to program it goes to 6% then the windows freeze.
btw: i am programming the test in lynxmotion tutorial.

Any advice…

I am Using

ThinkPad Z60T
Belkin F5U409 Usb to Serial adaptor
BotBoard II
Basic Micro Pro 28

I does work with my home pc, with the internal com1 port…

The two things that come to mind are…

  1. Laptops often require a powered USB hub to work with programming the Atom Pro. Not sure why, but using a powered USB hub often fixes the problem.

  2. Make sure the driver is up to date and is set for minimum latency, if it has this function.

Beyond that try looking over this guide.

How are you powering it?
What type of battery, how much voltage are you using to power it?
What jumpers are placed on the BB2?

It’s probably the issue with needing an externally powered hub, but just incase you should give us battery information too.
Also try different usb ports.
Some usb ports on laptops output higher mA’s.

For example, i had a netbook, where the single port on the left side could power an external 2.5" harddrive. Where the ones on the right side could not.

as mentioned he is powering it with plug power adaptor.
the question should be 'what is your current rating and voltage?

i agree with Fallentine. some hubs are strangely different.

do you get any messages when it freezes. and what are you having to do to get the program back. close the program down?

also id make sure all the ATOM Micro pins are properly set into the chip holder.

Also when I did a quick look at: Belkin F5U409
It shows it as a USB PDA adapter.

Some PDA adapters do not have all of the RS232 signals, which night imply that it won’t work. Not sure.

i completely missed the plugged part.

Still gotta know the voltage, and the mA output of the plug. And possible jumper settings. Though really the VL/VS jumper is the only one that would matter here.

Tanks everyone,

It’s probably a usb to serial adaptor problem since it work on my home pc.
It was the first time i use the BotBoard and Basic Pro 28. So at first i was a bit scared
that it was a hardware problem on one or the other.

But since it work on my home pc i will just stick with that option…

Tanks again for all of your help.

I will probably do some testing later, just to know if there is a way to make it work.

Hi, just to add to this thread…I’ve had nothing but problems also with usb to serial on the IBM Think Pad , I tried 3 different types and powered hubs and they are all glitchy…something that does work great though is a PCMCIA to serial adapter, no troubles since I bought it.

Tanks a lot… will look for something like that

Im experiencing this exact problem at the moment, it doesn’t happen when I remove the basic atom pro. I’m using a 6.0vdc 1600mAh NiMH Battery Pack to power it. Could I have damaged the basic atom pro?

edit: once I finally downloaded a program (through a usb to serial converter) it stopped, so I’m guessing its just a pre installed program to check functionality (sorry)
