Bot Board Fails to Turn On

Hi All,

I just bought my Phoenix Kit couple of days ago, and I assembled it as instructed.
At the final step, when I connected Bot Board II with 9V DC, I did not see the green power light on.
I have ensured that the power polarity is right.
Do you reckon I might have received the defect one?

Thanks.

EDIT:
I just tried to connect 9V DC battery only to Bot Board II and it turned on.

From above schematics, it seems that 9V battery is connected to Bot Board II & SSC32 VL. However, when I tried to follow the schematics, it seems that the Bot Board II did not get enough current.

If you have successfully build phoenix, can you please suggest?

(sorry for my broken English)

Hi BotBot,

I don’t have a phoenix, but I do have a few others , so hopefully I can help.

Please forgive some of these real basic questions, but many times they get us to the root of the problem.

  1. Battery: Have you verified that the battery works? If you have it hooked up like the diagram, does the LED come on the SSC-32 when you power it up? Have you turned on the switch? have you checked and made sure that their are no shorts. For example the battery cables are reasonably thick, it is sometimes possible that a few strands hang out and short out to the other terminal (been there) Do you have a voltage meter? If so check to see what voltage is getting to the battery terminals. Using the diagram you included did you make sure the power was coming in to the VL terminals and not VS? Or if on VS is the VS=VL jumper in place?

  2. Jumpers: Have you verified that the jumpers that you have On the SSC-32 and BotBoard2 match the diagram. In particular that on the SSC-32 the VS=VL jumper is removed.

  3. Bot Board 2 and Basic Atom Pro. Make sure that the chip is plugged in the correct orientation. Also check to make sure that all of the pins are in their sockets.

If the above does not get you to the point where the LED comes on and you can program the BAP, then I normally then try removing all wires that come into the BB2 and simply connect up the battery and see if that works. Also pick up the board and make sure that there is nothing shorting it out on top or bottom. For example a spare screw you dropped (again been there). If it does then try adding back the wires for the PS2, if that works then add the wires to connect it up to the SSC-32. Hopefully by this point everything is working.

Good Luck
Kurt
