Bot Board 11, AtomPro 28 and Basic Micro Studio

Hi,

I have problem of finding/detecting AtomPro-28 on Basic Micro studio. I have just bought it for somedays ago, i followed the instruction as listed on lynxmotion.com/images/html/build157.htm. the problem started while doing step 5 and step 6

I was first using my window7, 64-bit laptop and Prolific USB to Serial comm adapter on Com5. I could find the prossesor on the com5, but i got error while i connect to the controller, i then unistalled and reinstalled studio program and usb to Rs232 program. But it became worse i couldnt even find the prossesor on the com ports.

Then i decided to use my desktop (window xp proff with Pack 3) with serial to serial (ACP\PNP0501) on com1 connected but again I couldnt find the controller on the comm-port, i thereafter used the prolific usb to serial adapter and result was the same. I did some unistallation and reinstallation BUT unfortunatelly i couldnt ger any better

Im now confused, because i am supposed to show the functioning robot on friday (22.10).
Can anyone please tell me specific settings required to be done on exactly these two cases?

thnx

Just a thought, make sure you have battery (logic) power.

Hi Babz,

I gave some of the same information this morning up on the Basic Micro forums… Have you looked at the stuff in: viewtopic.php?t=4702

  1. You are using a prolific based USB to serial. On my machine I needed an externally powered USB hub to make it work. Nathan/AcidTech mentioned that as well.

  2. What version of drivers are you running on the prolific? I am using version 2.0.2.1, but I am running Window7 in 32 bit mode. You may try to update the drivers to the latest ones. Try to delete the Com port that is created, unplug the cable and plug it back it back in and hopefully it will create a new device…

  3. Check for hardware issues. Make sure the Bap28 is plugged in the right way (ie pin 1 is in the right place). Likewise make sure that all of the pins are seated in the socket properly (ie a pin did not bend over or the like). Make sure you have a fresh battery. What else is plugged into the BB2? If there are other things plugged in, unplug them. Does the power light come on properly on the BB2 when you turn on the power?

  4. If the comm port created is lets say Com5, than simply choose that from the drop down list at the start. If it is already showing 5 try to select something else and then reselect com5. That has fixed issues for me in the past.

  5. In Studio try changing the Rest Hold time. This is in Tools\Preferences\Advanced. Try different values from something like 10 to 50 and see if anything helps.

  6. If you are using an extension RS232 cable try a different one. Maybe it is a Null modem cable or maybe not all of the needed IO lines are going through…
    That is all for now.
    Kurt.

P.S. - I have had a few cables that no mater what I tried did not work. So you could try to pick up a different one.

If the Atom chip is installed correctly and the speaker enable jumper is installed, you should here a clicking sound. This assumes the chip is new and has never been programmed.

I am now happy to say that my proplem with connection is solved  .
I had to use a usb-hub with en external power.

i used the same prolific U232-P9 usb-serial adapter, window 7 64-bit, and the hub i mentioned above. The result is perfect.

Thanks all for the help and your concern
