Books about starting an RC toy company?

Hi All,

I'm looking to find information/books on how a person would go about starting an independent RC toy company. Or even links to interviews with people who have (past or present) started their own RC company.

There a few tech start-up books that i've come across on amazon (but haven't read as yet):

1. Start up guide for the technopreneur
2. Starting a Tech Business: A Practical Guide for Anyone Creating or Designing Applications or Software
3. The Tech Entrepreneur's Survival Guide

But since I know practically nothing about Business (...studying design in school) much less RC, I'd like to see if i can get my hands on more specialized knowledge.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would suggest finding people who can fill those roles. Knowing how finance works is a different specialty from building stuff which is different from design.

And the country you’re doing this in can matter greatly.

Hey that’s good advice, and one of the hardest things to do…figuring out what my glaring deficiencies are and trusting someone enough to share my ideas and have another person develop them.  I’m going to read a biography or 2 of successful tech start ups and see what other people went through.  Thanks!

I’m working to start a small robot company. Books often don’t tell failures or crysis, that maybe are more useful to know than just successes.

At the first stage i find really silly to keep all secret, ideas aren’t defendible and most of the times are already in development somewhere. Keep tracks of what happens in China, do bill of materials and market analysis, make prototypes, make clients. Try to sell when the product is good enough, not necessarily perfect. Start small.

There are many things to consider if you want to start a business, no matter in what sector you want to sell your products or services. In one direction, you should consider finding strong, reliable business partnerships, like the logistics company from http://www.landstar.com/.You will transport your products but also all kinds of materials useful for your business faster and at a decent price.
