Bluetooth

We have the Omni Rover 2.0 (RB-Rbo-127) kit. In addition, we purchased the DFRobot Bluetooth Bee (RB-Dfr-95) and Seeedstudio Bees Shield (RB-See-178). We are having trouble getting the bluetooth to work. We have the Bees Shield installed on top of the motor shield and the bluetooth bee installed in Bee1 on the shield. It appears the Bees shield is only powered when the USB cable is plugged into the main board (i.e., LEDs are lit on the Bees shield and bluetooth bee). With USB plugged in, we can pair the bluetooth bee to the PC. However, when we unplug the USB cable all the LEDs go out and the we loose the connection.

Can someone provide some helpful hints to getting bluetooth working?

Thank You

I’ve uploaded a couple of pictures. We are powering the robot with the 4AA battery pack and have removed the jumper at the back left. The board power on switch is set to on. There is a switch on the shield that has USB or Atmega. I’m not sure what this should be set on. Also, when the USB is connected, the LEDs are very bright. However, with only the battery pack they are dim (though we have tried different alkaline batteries).

Can you provide a few images of how you have it all set up? Perhaps we can catch something. Also, how are you powering the board? Note that if you are using anything but a 3.7V LiPo pack, you should remove the LiPo jumper are the left rear of the board. When you have it powered by battery, the ON/OFF switch needs to be set to ON. The other issue may be the orientation of the BT module itself.

The shield is likely causing the issue. Note the set of three by 14 blue pins with jumpers. These jumpers allow you to determine which pins connect to which XBee slot.

Curious why you chose this shield when the DFRobotShop Rover already includes two XBee slots and all you need to do is solder the headers?
