BLDC Motors and Tire selection

Hello All,

I am new to Robotics, here is the vision. I would like to build a robot with 4 wheels . where 2 BLDC motors are for driving forward and reverse and 2 wheels for direction. These BLDC wheels will be in the center and the 2 other wheels will be one in front and back. imagine a " +" sign.
The max payload it 25Kg. and speed is not a bigger point here. this if for outdoor use. I would like to understand the Wheel size that I need to pick and BLDC motors that i need to use. And what is u recommendation on directional wheels. Appreciate your help

Hello @cnarr and welcome to the forum!

It is not easy to give correct answer to which motors and tires to use, since there are so many variables involved.

But, maybe you can see and try to copy some of the existing project.

For example, see this platform sold on RobotShop that can carry 100 kilograms: https://ca.robotshop.com/products/ubiquiti-robotics-magni-highly-capable-robot-platform

According to one topic found on manufacturer’s forum (Motor Specs ~ Voltage/Current - #3 by FolsomMike - Ubiquity Robotics Discourse ) they used 24VDC 200W BLDC hub motors, customized with 5:1 gear ration so maybe that can be some kind of guide for you when choosing the motors.
