Hey everyone,
if i want to use an BLDC motor for my e scooter, do you recommend a sensored one? What happens if I choose one without sensores? Do I loose much time when I want to start driving off?
Thanks for your help!

Hello @hannesde,
If you choose one with sensors, then you could have problems in harsh environment (for example, you are driving your scooter through the mud or the dust, lot of vibrations, etc.).
On the other side, you are right, you could lose some time when starting it. It could occasionally cause cogging, which is very annoying!
At high-speeds, there would be no difference.
So, if you ask me, I would choose one with sensor, but pick a good quality one!
Hey @igor_X,
thanks for your answer! Will the cogging occur everytime I lift the gas pedal and keep rolling or just when I start from standstill?
It depends on the speed. From standstill, since you are starting and having low speed, it will cogg, but once when you reach higher speed, it should work perfectly.
Hey @hannesde
You can find more information on cogging on brushless motors here: http://www.radiocontrolinfo.com/brushless-motor-cogging-explained/
It is a very good explanation! As @igor_X said, once it is started, you shouldn’t feel any cogging.
