I am building a four-wheeled robot and need some help selecting the right motors for my robot.
I used the drive Motor Sizing Tool to determine the required torque, angular velocity, and total power, with the following specifications of the robot.
Total Mass: 15kg
Number of drive motors: 4
Radius of Drive Wheel: 0.0762m (3 inches)
Max Robot Velocity: 5m/s
Max Inclination: 20 deg
Supply Voltage: 24V
Desired Acceleration: 2m/s2
Desired operating time: 1hr (guessed)
Total Efficiency: 65%
Output for each drive motor:
Angular Velocity: 626.91 rev/min
Torque: 2.3542Nm
Total Power: 154.48W
Max current: 6.4366A
Battery Pack: 25.746Ah
I have the following components and searching for motors that are compatible with them.
ChipRobotics BLDC motor controller for each motor (max continuous current: 20A).
Hello @aksharc2 and welcome to the RobotShop community,
For such a high torque I would recommend geared motors, however, as higher torque equals lower speed you may have to compromise one of those specs.
For example, check these options:
High torque, low speed:
High speed, low torque:
But you should be able to find something in the middle in the Brushless DC Motors section of the store. A good option would be a geared motor but with a low gear reduction so the speed isn’t too low.
