BLDC motor control

Hello,

I’m trying to connect a BLDC motor to 80 volts DC and it won’t run. The motor has 3 wire Black, Red and Yellow any combination I use doesn’t work. I want to run the motor at full speed. The motor is around 1.5 HP and runs at 3000 RPMs. Please let me know if I need to purchase an ESC control and which one? Thank you.

Hi nelsona1,

To run a BLDC (brushless) motor you do need a motor controller that can handle the voltage and current of your motor.
You also need to know the way you want to control the speed, do you have more specification about your motor and control needs ?

Here is the RobotShop Brushless DC Motor Controllers category

Hi Eric,

The Motor is 80 VDC and I would like to run it at full speed all the time 3000 RPM’s - I don’t know the amp draw though.

Hi nelsona1,

You need more information as requested to select a motor controller.
The current at which the motor run is a crucial one and the way you want to control it.

Usually those motor controller will have Serial or Analog and sometimes R/C control. If you only need it to run at full speed, an analog version with a potentiometer might be the easier to do.

Running amps is going to be around 10 amps

There are not 80V model available but you if you can lower the input voltage we would recommend a SBL1360 which can run at 60V.
