I will post the BOM as soon as it’s finished. Everyone is welcomed to this design.
I was going to place the “shin” servo (right above the ankle servos) a bit forward like how the Kondo KHR-series does it, but I didn’t really like the shin moved forward. Perhaps a real-life builder can experiment with the shin being in-line with the rest of the leg or placed a bit forward…
The scout has the foot offset below the hip rotate as well. No problems unless you plan to rotate the hips with both feet on the ground, which you won’t.
One thing I noticed was that the legs are a bit too long due to the extra hip rotation. Planning to drop the ankle servos down a bit by laying it down flat like in the torso-rotate biped humanoid. This should cut it down the length of the leg by about .25"-.5" or so…
This will be something in the future for me, I will be working on a CH3-R soon (as soon as the brackets arrive, can’t wait 8) )
This project will probably have to wait a while, I have a feeling that this will be one of those 16 x HSR5990TG jobby, maybe after taxes ?
I really like the design, but instead of making it shorter why not consider making it taller. Replace the ankle to knee section, ASB-04’s and ASB-06’s, with a couple ASB-15’s. With 5990 servos a bit taller bots shouldn’t be a problem and may even perform better.
Making it taller would give you a higher COG and make it easier to fall over, especially if you’re going to be competing. Not to mention getting up can be harder with taller bots.
I thought that also had to do with the difference in mass.
I dunno, my statement regarding height of bipeds in competitions is based on observation of the robo-one and similar matches. Seems a lot of the successful robots are compact, and have a low center of gravity, giving them better balance.
Fair enough. I believe you are correct in the fighting biped scenario, but as far as walking goes I think it should be easier for a taller bot to balance than a shorter one. The taller one just falls harder. lol
rrdiaz had a pretty solid design… I currently haven’t updated this biped variant yet, but the use of LPAs and such kinda gave me a few ideas on what to modify for the next revision…
I like that hip rotation MUCH better. Gives a more realistic look to the waste and hips and dosne’t look as square as the other one. This gives some deffintion to the body and seperates the upper from the lower torso. NIIICE 8)
