Hello,
I want to build an arm that can lift some thick disks of 7.5cm in diameter (roughly 3 inches) and 4cm thick (1.5 inches). So I need a gripper that can open 4 inches wide.
Any suggestion on where I can find that?
Thanks,
Vincent

Hi Vincent,
If you’ve read Karl William’s book, “Build Your Own Humanoid Robot,” he instructs you on how to build a gripper with a seven inch grasp. Not only that, it looks really cool. I’m building it for my project. It does require you to ‘build’ it though. All it really takes is some aluminum pieces, a single standard servor, weather strip foam, and a rubber glove. (You can add sensors to it if you want).
You should be able to find his book at Barnes and Nobles or Borders. Hope this helps!

might you know the cost of that book?

So that’s what the threaded inserts in the jaws are for!
Cute little gripper! Now if I just had a compact means to raise/lower this gripper on the front end of my Micromouse.
