So, my robot runs on 5V. I know the Tamiya motors are best at 3.7V. Also, the rover seems to barely be able to turn on carpet, and I’m wondering if that could be improved by better motors. I think I recall a notion when reading about the rover that it was designed in mind with the possibility of higher voltage motors and such.
But I’m wondering: Are there bigger/better motors about that fit into the Tamiya gearbox there? How do I find them?
It’s really the notion of tracked vehicles - in order to turn, the tracks need to move sideways, essentially rubbing against the surface rather than rolling on it. The motors need to be able to overcome this side force. It should work on short carpet, but it’s really designed for flat surfaces. The original concept was a desktop rover, which explains the size and speed; if you put it on a desktop, you don’t want it moving too fast - you want to check your code.
The DC motors themselves can be replaced with 6V version which are faster and a bit more powerful:

Perfect, thank you. I’ll have to place an order soon.
