Best Software to use to Program 7-Axis Robot

Hey everyone!

We just purchased a 7-Axis Robot and have been using Powermill as our main software for programming, but we’re not sure if it’s the best choice for us just yet.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or preferences for programming software for 7-axis machines.

Some questions we have…

  • What CAM software that’s currently out there seems like it has the brightest future in this space? (Mastercam, Powermill, Solidcam, Octopuz, etc.)
  • If you were to purchase a new CAM software, which one would you invest in?

Thanks in advance for any tips!! Appreciate it.

Would we be correct to assume you mean a 7 axis CNC machine as opposed to a robot arm?
The robot arms we carry are largely intended for hobby or semi-professional use, and are limited in their degrees of freedom. All include software for their hardware, so customers don’t need to look elsewhere.
The CNC machines we carry stop at three motorized axes (a far cry from 7 motorized axes).
What product do you have? This will obviously affect what software is compatible.

Powermill is from Autodesk, which is a very well known company. 3D Systems has their own software “GibbsCAM” as well.

Hopefully others in the community will offer their input as well.
