Benginer Looking for some help

I am working on a project that is rather simple.

I am going to make a puppet that I only need the head to move.

I would like it to move with close to the full range of a regular head.

I also want to have direct control (Wired, not RF) over it. I don’t really want it doing it’s own thing. I need the controller to be small. This puppet will be part of a costume. I will have a belt pouch as part of the costume to hold batteries and stuff that won’t fit into the puppet.

Is there anyone out there that can help me? I have never done this before and need to know what robotic parts to order to pull this off.

Thank You

Probably the first and most important question: How large and heavy is this puppet head?

Since it is to be a direct-controlled object, you might not even need motors to get the desired results - movie creatures used physical pushrods and cables to achieve the same effect for decades, before it became feasible to do it with electronics.

I’m not saying that that would necessarily be the easiest way to do it…

We are figuring the head will be between 0.5 and 1 pound.

We have one now that use push rods. THe problem is you have a cable that can’t be bent too far. This is the reason for Robotics. The cables can be easily hidden. As I can hopefully use a small joystick or push button controls.

After some thought and some brainstorming I think I can pull this off with some basic switches and two motors. Keeps it simple and much cheaper.
