Hi everyone im in high school and want to be a robotics engineer when i graduate college but i no nothing about progrmming and i would like to start getting the basics now and i have been looking at the robot kits on this website i like the biped BRAT the most but i was wondering if i would be easy for me to learn how to program and work since i am a begginer and if not which kit would be the easiest to start with
I wish to do the same too!!
well as a robot guru told me start out buy reading what is a micro controller book you can download a copy at www.parallax.com
(not sure if I spelled that right) but it’s filled with info to get you started the also have a forum there for any questions and of cource everyone here at lynxmotion will help too
The best way to know if you can build and program the bots is to look at the assembly guides, and the tutorials.

PC control…

Atom Pro control…

And yes we are alway here to help.
if you’re going to use ATOM pro you should read its manual and learn how the programming works. It should be pretty straightforward and not be nearly as complicated as other languages(C++, C#, Java, Perl, etc…).
For one thing, learning to program the Atom pro will make it easier to learn the other languages, since essentially they are the same in many ways.
Good luck! I’m in high school too, and I just got a BRAT. In many ways, the assembly and figuring what power source to provide was harder than programming(I think Robot Dude would second that…)-of course it’d been easier if I had an ATOM pro not a BS2. Anyways just read the tuts and learn some BASIC programming and you’ll be set.
The book, “What’s a microcontroller” is perhaps the best “get your feet wet, noob book” You can download it and print it out for free from the Parallax website, but without the actual kit the book comes with, you wont benefit much from the exercises that are in the book.
In my opinion, it’s a great starting point, a seed, in which you can grow and advance to a near infinite array of areas that deal with robotics. Some areas are mechanics, electronics, programming, physics, optics, neurological systems etc…
Before you spend a penny, have a look at the links Jim provided regarding the assembly tutorials, Download the free books and thumb through them and see what direction you want to take.
wooow all u guys are great thank you very much for all of this info im going to buy one of the kits from parallax first and learn how to program im glad i just didnt buy the BRAT kit first without asking cause i might hav had trouble with learnig from it but once i learn from the parallax kit im going to buy the BRAT kit thanks again

Just a note, periods in your posts help.
Good luck with you project!
“What’s a microcontroller” or “robotics with the BOE bot and"Advanced Robotics with Toddler” if you take those books and take your time learning them you’ll be a robot builder in no time!
