Battery Selection for Servos

Could someone please assist me in choosing a suitable battery to simultaneously power 4 Hitec HSR 5990TG servos. It will be controlled by an mbed microcontroller.

Operating time is not really an issue.

Would something like this be appropriate?

Thanks in advance

My guess is that it would work. However I have no experience with LIPO batteries nor with the 5990 servos, which at least the specs look like they can take a 7.4v lipo.

I personally have shied away from LIPO due to potential fire/explosion issues (goggle for more details). But I have been told by others that they are fine if used carefully. Things like shut it off when the voltage gets below some set value and use an appropriate charger…

Again others are better to answer this than I am.

Hi,

That LiPo would be much more than enough to power the servos. I would recommend to use a main fuse (20 amps or so) when using a LiPo for safety reasons.
If you’ve experience of using LiPo’s you probably know how to handle them safe.

I’m using a 2S LiPo directly for powering 5990’s and it work fine (so far…).

thank you for your replies.

i should mention that i know little to nothing about electronics. this is my first real project. can you recommend a more suitable battery that would do the job but wouldnt be overkill?
what are the relative advantages/disadvantages of different battery types?

Hi, I posted a reply in your other thread about battery.
