Hi!
I have followed all the instructions in the manuals to program my botbaordII to control my 3DOF BH3 Hexapod robot. I use a USB to Serial adapter to plug into my computer(Vista). The adapter worked with PowerPod and allowed me to connect my SSC32 and offeset the serovs. But now when I plug the adapter into the Bot BoardII to download the program onto it, it cannot find any devices on the COM channell. The green light is on the Bot Board and all the jumpers are installed as the tutorial shows. Anyone have a clue whats wrong? IS there anyway to check and see if the BotBoard and Basic Atom 28 are functioning correctly?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry to hear about that.
Unfortionatly many of us have been there. The Basic Atom or Atom Pro are much more demanding on a serial adapter than many other devices as they communicate at a rather high speed. There are several threads (including a few sticky ones) on this forum that talk about probablems with using several of the different USB to serial adapters and suggestions on what configuration options you might want/need to tweak to make them work properly.
If you don’t find any information in these threads that helps you to solve the problem, it would help to have additional information, such as which adapter you are using.

The main one to read is this one.
Serial port must be like this.

Okay so I now have a Parallax USB to RS-232, and here is the problem! Immediatly after starting up BasicMicro IDE and hitting find devices, the prgram finds the Atom 28. But when I try to program, i get the warning of not connected, and when I hit find devices again, its no longer there. I have set default coms to the correct one, and done changes I have read about from you last post. Could it be a problem with the USB power? (PS I am using VIst and have the FTDI driver for USB to Serial.)
You mentioned twice that you’re using Vista, but is it a laptop? If it is then you may need to check to make sure it’s powered. If you have a powered USB hub try connecting through it. Also is your vista up to date?
No it is not a laptop, and yes it is up to date! Also I do not have an externaly powererd hub. Just the ones on the computer.
Try powering the Bot Board by itself with a fresh 9vdc battery. Connect it to the VL terminals and unplug the servo battery.
Are you sure you are using the correct IDE? I would recommend using 2.2.1.1, or course you must select that one in PowerPod to generate the correct code.
Are you sure you are not leaving any other programs running that use the serial port? For example if you have LynxTerm, PowerPod, or any other program that uses the serial port running then the IDE will never be able to use the port. One at a time…
Do you have access to another computer to test the hardware? I’m running out of ideas here.
Ah! I was using the wrong version of the IDE, after switching to 2.1.1 its works fine. Thanks for your help!
I still got it! 8) hehehe
