I am yet to see any real PC requirements for hosting the new version of the Atom Pro IDE.
Does anyone know if the latest version will run under Win98 SE or is this another one of those Microshaft hidden features type thing that the latest will only run under XP?
I have been using PC’s for 20 some years. I consider XP the first stable consumer based OS from Microsoft. lol I will ask Nathan to address the “official” OS requirements for the BM IDE’s. Hope this helps, Jim
I am not necessarily suggesting there is a problem with this as everyone has to balance their financial situations. I am however suggesting a reality check on someones perspective that because they have not chosen or been fortunate enough to update their system that they continue to expect the rest of the business world to cater to their condition. I mean how many good CP-M applications have you seen advertised recently? Why are there not people continuing to develop relavent programs for my Kaypro system I bought in 1985 at a yard sale? Wordstar worked great then, how come they have not released an update that allows me to import/export in an msword compatible format? This is taking the argument to the extreme perspective of course however support for win98se platforms is becoming more and more the extreme case as time marches on. Ask a 10yro how to do something at a C:\ command line prompt and enjoy the blank look.
We stopped supporting 98 and earlier OS’s when Microsoft did. Currently we only support 2000 and up. That doesn’t mean the IDE won’t run on 98 or even 95(with all the updates) but we no longer test for compatibility on those OSs.
No offense, but if they don’t care, then they should. Windows XP is the best Windows to date. I know I will eventually have to update (I don’t consider it an ugrade in my case) to Windows Vista, but I will hold out as long as I can with XP. I am actually trying to pull as much of my development and such into Linux.
EddieB and wowy7, you guys are pathetic. Nothing in either of your replies was truthfully relevant to my question. I’m not cheap, I am thrifty. But as my father told me before he passed away. never argue with a stupid person because they wil drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Actually, Carl, my orriginal reply was directly relavent to you post but maybe your pre-disposed poor attitude prevented you from hearing it. Allow me to spell it out so even an IQ challenged individual can figure it out.
The distributor of a product is not responsible to answer for a manufacturers decisions on what to support or not to support. Ask the manufacturer directly rather than putting the burden on the distributor. Clear enough for you? forums.basicmicro.net
I think it was your tone that came across in a negative way. Eddie is a very knowledgeable person and is very helpful in a lot of areas of robotics. His only point was that older OS is going to increasingly become less supported with newer software products which should be of no surprise. He has designed a wireless serial port board free for the community to download and ordered to have fabed - he’s not stupid by any means.
