I have the 256:1 ratio boxes and they are pretty noisy as is to be expected with all those planetary gearsets inside. Does anybody have a higher ratio such as the 132:1? I wanted to get your opinion on the noise since I may change to that ratio of it is much quieter.
That is a good question. I used what I thought would be sufficient to lube the gears and the gear axles but no more. Do you have experience with solving this problem with more grease?
I used white lithium grease and I assume that is acceptable. I will add more grease to see if that helps. It is VERY noisy right now and I don’t think it is motor noise. It doesn’t help that I have them mounted to an aluminum sheet. Thanks for the idea.
Are you using a sufficient amount of grease?
You need to use the right grease and lots of it. It will never run perfectly quiet though since it’s a mechanical system. You can use capacitors on the motor leads to reduce motor noise.
