So I just bought a basic atom 28 (verson D) and a bot board2. downloaded needed softwere to program. And cannot
progran, read or erase. The program basic micro studio will recognize that I have a basic atom 28, (under tools–>preferences–>find processor)
but under debuger–> connect, I get “system cannot find processor.” yes I have a serial to usb, it was from radio shack ( gigaware brand, paid around 35)
not sure if is ftid driver chip, but If i connected to my older computer with a serial card I get the same issues. I have read througt the other forums here
and I have tryed EVERYTHING!
also, I have tryed using basic micro ide, both serial to usb on one computer and serial to serial on the other, and under tools–> system setup–> find devices, basic atom 28 IS listed is one of the com ports it is searching through but, under tools system setup hardware test I am getting an error it says -
could not connect
check comport settings
chech serial cable conection
3.check power conection
also I hooked up the atom 28 to a bred board ( to rule out a bad bot board) following its data sheet correctly, and all that …same issues.
any help lol??
I would try doing a FULL uninstall and then reinstall the IDE. I had a problem where my BAP AD pins stoped working and I thought for sure I smoked part of the BAP. A full uninstall and re-install of the IDE fixed the problem. In your case it might not work, but there certainly is no harm in at least trying it.
Yeah, that was my guess as well. I probably should have emphasized it more. Pesky things these IDE’s, some times. I wish I had the stand-alone down-loader and compilers. Then I’d just run them with a batch file.
Here is where my first concern would be. There have been enough issues with USB to serial adapters not being up to snuff for programming the Atom Pros. There are many threads on this in the forum, including this one pointed to by the sticky thread: viewtopic.php?t=4702
We need to know more information about this converter. Which OS are you running? It would help if you go the device manager on your PC and then do a properties on the comm port that was created for your USB adapter. From there it would be good to get details about what drivers you are using. From some of the comments I saw up on the Radio Shack site my guess is it is based on a Prolific Chip (not FTDI). Some cables with these chips work great, in fact my main one is made by BAFO. Also from the device properties, if you go to the Port Settings Page and click on the Advanced Settings button, what options do you have?
Note: with my BAFO USB adapter I used to have problems with it, which was fixed by plugging it into a powered USB2 hub (my current one is by link sys).
Other things to try are playing with the Advanced Comm Settings in the Basic Micro Studio. In particular with the Reset Hold Time.
well i have tried all your guys help, and thanks, again and no luck and yes kurte i have read the sticky thread a lot but like i said i have also tried my old computer running xp with a normal serial port to void out the usb issues, this is lame my project has been done for a month, everything but the atom interfacing, now i have to send it back and wait another 2 weeks lol. off the subject any one ever do the project from robostuff.com (the router bot) i completed it and it has tons of potential. too bad i dont understand how to “mod” it.
