Backlash on Faulhaber 12V Gearmotor

I’m interested in purchasing a pair of Faulhaber 12V gearmotors (product RB-Nex-30). But first, I need information on angular backlash at the output shaft. Has anyone measured this? Also, are brackets available to hold this gearmotor? Or are drawings available for the gearhead? The Robotshop datasheet only has dimensions for the motor itself. I’m not sure this product is worth $90.64 given the limited information.

All the information the manufacturer provides about that motor can be found in the documentation (the version of the motor in question is 012CR).
All they seem to indicate is “radial shaft play” at <0.015mm.
Faulhaber and Maxon are two of the highest quality motor manufacturers around.
At this time we purchase the motors through Nexus Robot since it is the main motor used on their wheeled robots.
Unfortunately they do not seem to offer a motor mount at this time as it is primarily intended to be a replacement motor.
We have contacted our supplier to see if they can provide the dimensional drawing for the gearbox.

Attached you will find the dimensions provided by Nexus. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the gearhead drawing. This will help me print a bracket. Another question… the motor is clearly a high quality Faulhaber motor. What about the gearhead itself, is that German made or Chinese designed and built? This is important because the angular backlash at the gearhead shaft is borne from the gears.

Not 100% certain, so have contacted the manufacturer and will get back to you with their reply.

Our supplier indicates that all parts, including the gearbox are made in Germany. Hope this helps.

Regarding the gearbox, are the gears made of plastic, aluminum, or steel?

Do you now have a mount for these products?

Thank you.

We are not sure if the gearing is plastic or metal, so we have requested that information from our supplier and will get back to you as soon as we receive a reply.
Unfortunately the motors are really meant as replacements for their robots and as such they do not offer any mounting plates.

The brackets are very important.

I notice the supplier makes brackets for the Faulhaber 12V Gearmotor on one their robot kits:

nexusrobot.com/product.php?id_product=67

I believe RobotShop offers the same kit here:

robotshop.com/en/4wd-arduino … t-kit.html

Is there any way of selling those brackets separately? If the supplier can offer the gearmotors separately, why not offer the brackets too? This may help increase sales.

We will pass your suggestion along to Nexus, but it’s ultimately up to them if they want to create brackets.

The gears are copper. The manufacturer can provide a new bracket for the motor.
The product is not listed separately on their website, but we can send you the details via e-mail.
Please write to us at [email protected] with a link to this topic as well as your contact details and we will provide you with a quote as well as a product image.

Copper gears? That’s disappointing. For $90.64, I was expecting steel or aluminum. Thank you for checking.

What about RB-Dev-38 or RB-And-136, do those products use steel or aluminum gears? If not, can you tell me which products do?

Thank you.

RB-And-136 uses steel gears
RB-Dev-38 - we will need to contact our supplier to confirm.

Can you tell us the specs you are looking for in terms of torque, RPM and voltage?
