ASB-13 vs. ASB-13B ... do they differ by more than finish?

Gentle Persons:

[Another nitpicky question from a champion nitpicker]

I’ve been working on the assumption that where Lynxmotion part numbers differ only by the suffix “B” the parts themselves differ only in their finish.

In the pictures on Lynxmotion.com, however, the ASB-13 has four SES-hole sets laid out in a rectangular pattern on the back plate, while the ASB-13B has only one set in one corner of the plate.

I was hoping to stay with the natural-brushed finish throughout, but I need the multiple SES-hole sets shown on the ASB-13. Are the photos accurate or is the layout of the two parts the same? If the same, which layout is it—one set or four?

Kent

The brushed ones predate the black ones. I added the 3 hole patterns when we made the black ones. I’m not going to make then in brushed with the extra holes until I need to reorder. Sorry it’s not a fast moving part, so that’s where we are.

We have been making the parts in black anodized OR clear chromate for about a year now. Some older parts are still bare brushed though. But I am ordering the brackets in either black or clear anodized from now on. Eventually all will be anodized. Note the large chassis parts have been black / clear anodized from the beginning.

Jim:

That’s a good enough answer for me.

Click-and-Clack the Tappet Brothers argue that Detroit should ship “pre-dinged” new cars. That way, owners won’t get so down on themselves when they ding their car for the first time. I’m going to cop this attitude with my project. Now that one part has to be black, I don’t have to worry about matching everything any more!

Thanks for the quick reply.

PS - obviously I’m too lazy to lay out and drill some more holes!

One possible alternative is to get the black one and then wire brush the black finish to make it silver again. You could even use sand paper to take off the finish and then buff it with 400 grit sandpaper to give a nice polished look to it.
