Arm help! asap!

Ok. I bought an AL5B arm and an SSC-32 Controller. I also Have an Atom Pro 28-Pin, a Bot Board II and a Hitec Laser 6ch rc set. I need a tutorial on how to control the arm with my Hitec and not a PS2 controller.

Please Help Me!!! I Need to have this done by tuesday :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Hi beatmac,

You need to give us a little bit more information before we are able to help you. What is your current status? Do you only need to change the ps2 remote input to the Hitec laser or do you need a program from scratch?

Xan

Thanks for replying Xan!

Actually, I have no idea how to connect the Hitec receiver to the Arm. I have already set up the arm to the SSC-32 and Bot Board II ( with Atom 28-pin). In the tutorial for RC control, It showed how to connect the PS2 cable to the Bot Board. At this point, I got completely lost. I have no idea how to use a Hitec receiver instead of that PS2 cable.

I need to use the Hitec because im entering my robot into a robotics competition, and it requires a team of two drivers. I mounted the arm on an A4WD1 rover(Excellent Product!!) and routed the wheel and gripper control to one of the two Hitec Radio systems i bought. I now plan to route the arm to the second one and I need help there. I have severely limited time guys!!

Find the documentation for the radios you are using. Plug the servos into the receiver as instructed in the radios documentation. You will not get full range from the servos, but it’s easy to get operational. Also look here for more info.

So,

I dont need the SSC-32 and the Bot Board then?

Thanks Jim!

Hi,

I’m working on almost the same setup. The easiest way to control your arm is with both SSC and BotBoard. It is possible to drop SSC and drive the servos with the BotBoard but this takes more time and experience to get it to work. I’ve got it running but it still got some issues.

I’ve got a working version from a arm including 4DOF Inverse Kinematics at home. It uses both BotBoard with Atom 28 Pro (BAP) and SSC. The code will be released on a later stadium but I’m willing to share that version with you since your on a short time limit. It uses a Ps2 remote for input so you need to adapt it to the RC remote.

What you could do in the mean time is connect the RC receiver to the BAP and try to read the inputs. Convert them to a byte (0 to 256) where 128 is the middle position. This way you can easy add this to the code. Send me a PM with your mail address if your interested.

Controlling the arm directly from a radio is definitely not the best choice. However given your short deadline I suggested it. The best way is to use the Bot Board with the PS2 controller and or the SSC-32. We have examples, but they are not perfect. Xan is working on improving the code for these solutions. 8)

I kinda realized that the servos dont give full range with the Hitec system.
However, since i already bought 2 sytems and planned to use them, i have no choice. Also, I dont exactly have any more money to buy more stuff. I heard the ps2 controller’s range is not exactly awesome.

Well, I followed ur advice Jim, and at the competition, my robot’s time beat everyone else by at least 2 minutes!

THANK YOU LYNXMOTION!!

Congratulations!!! 8)
