Still pretty new to the robot world, but I have had R/C models so I understand the basics of servos.
However I watched someone’s scout robot on YouTube, and the servos made quite a load whining noise.
He even stated in the video the this was normal with digital servos.
Yes. All servos will make noise when in use, but digital servos tend to make more noise than analog ones. Generally speaking, the more powerful a servo is, the more noise it’ll make (I’m looking at YOU HS-5990…)
Sorry, by “in use” I mean “under load”. Even when the robot is standing still, the servos are still doing work. The robot would fall down otherwise. If you were to pick the robot up, you would notice the servos would be much quieter.
PS: There is no need to ‘bump’ your posts after just a day, especially on weekends. This is a relatively small forum and for the most part, users read every post. Lynxmotion staff are out of the office on the weekends, and we do our best to reply to each question on the following Monday.
The nose is normal and gets louder under load. I’m not sure what servos he is using but it seems like he has quite a bit of weight on that thing. My brat gives a nice hum sound when standing still. I’m using 5645mg servos which are digital.
I don’t remember what Connor was using, but they sound like Hitec 5990tg to me. I also use these, and that high pitched whine is normal for these servos.
