Hi,
before purchasing a microcontroller, I would need some advices.
I have to control 15 solenoids. I don’t know what would be the best choice:
either a 0 16 16 phidgets boards or an arduino mega with transistors and diodes.
I’m planing to control everything through max msp. so i’m really atracted by the phidget board for practical reasons.
Moreover, my weak skills don’t allow me to know which one will be faster.
I’ve heard using firmata and arduino would make me undergo some slight latency.
what about phidgets on this point?
(sorry for my english , I don’t know if i could speak french on this forum)
thanks for your help.
Merci pour votre réponse!
(next time, I will ask my questions in french!)
I think I will order a couple of phidgets boards
including a 0 16 16 one.
Is there any embeded protection on the board or do I have to add some diode?
I also have seen some phidgets relay board, that could drive some solenoids what 's the best between these two solutions?
Is it posssible to use 2 of them at the same time?
Again, thanks for your advices
thanks.
what do you mean by “other protections”
my solenoids are 24 V.
driving solenoid could also be possible with the relay board without such protection?
Le français est certainement bienvenu au forum.
It will definitely be simpler to use a Phidgets board in your case. It will spare you the wiring of transistors and should be more responsive than an Arduino running Firmata (although we do not have precise figures)
It is certainly possible to use more than one Phidgets board at the time.
When using the 0 0 16 to drive solenoids, you have to make sure their current and voltage ratings do not exceed the board’s. It might also be safe to add diodes or other protections to the circuit just in case.
