Arduino Nano ATMega328 (CH340G Clone) is it dead

Hi;

I have been using a Nano ATMega328 (CH340G Clone) this one here and its been working fine however earlier today during an upload my Mac decided to switch itself off?

Now the red light (power) comes on but it does not respond to anything else, the USB serial port is also not recognised, meaning that it is not communicating.

I have tried a different Nano and that works fine (Serial communication).

Is there anyway to reset the chip or is it toast?

Ebay clones…
You can search eBay for clones of the nano. Here they run $3-4 per. You sometimes get a better price if you’re buying a lot, but do the math, sometimes different sellers have different ideas of the price.

If you need it replaced NOW, then I’d through Amazon or a local store.

I’m a little lost now, so the cable I linked will not work?

How do I program using ISP? As far as I understand there is no FDTI chip on this Nano as its a clone, its a CH340G?

I have another Nano that I could use and follow the guide at this link posted by deshipu 

I have just dug out a USB to Serial Port cable from my garage, I bought it to program a BASIC Stamp from a PC without a Serial Port, could I use that?

If you already have the
If you already have the cable, it might work if the built in USB to serial chip is the only thing broken.

However, I thought you were on a deadline. If you have to order the cable, that will take time. If you’re on a deadline, I would suggest getting one Arduino Nano as fast as you can. Perhaps from the same place as the cable, or from Amazon if it’s faster. Then maybe order a couple of clones on the spirit of backups.

If you have another nano, use that one for your bot if you’re on a deadline.

I may have gotten mixed up, so correct me if I’m wrong. You’re in charge of a robot club and you need a working robot before the next meeting. From my experience with such things it’s very easy to lose the faith of the kids whom you are teaching, especially as early as this.

And if you have to change things around with the robots, the time to do this is now. and you might want to run it past us to see if it will work.
