Arduino MEGA 2560 running too hot?

Hi,

I just bought an Arduino MEGA 2560 Rev3 from robotshop but it is running very hot. Even when running the simple “blink” program (turns a diode on and off) and powered by USB, the microcontroller chip quickly becomes burning hot. No other components, including the voltage regulator, warm up.

I have used Arduino UNOs before and never had this problem. Is it normal for the chip to run hot on the MEGA 2560 or is mine defective? Thanks!

You are right to be nervous, and if you are simply running BlinkLED with nothing else connected, it should not get hot at all. Contact us via the RobotShop Support Center - returns/exchanges department and refer to this thread, and provide your invoice number. Sorry for any inconvenience.
