Arduino-based rover: spade connectors keep falling off motor pins

I’m building the RobotShop Arduino-based rover (v2) and I’ve been struggling with the spade connectors since the start. I had trouble putting them on the wire seeing as they’re so tiny and I didn’t have the right tools for it. I bought some needle nose pliers which helped massively but now I’m having difficulty with the other end of them that slots into the pins on the motors.

They just fall off, they’re so fragile. I tried tightening the ends but it doesn’t really help much. I’ve also over-tightened one of them to the point where the pin won’t even go in the terminal anymore and as the part is so tiny I can’t open it back up.

Is my only option here to solder? Anybody else struggled with these miniature spade connectors? The rest of the assembly has been very straightforward; it’s just these damn connectors I’m struggling with.

Hello @teslamat,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

If it was normal wires problem i would have suggested to use the butt connectors but, when it’s a motor pins problem, it’s always better to solder them.

Hey Ebram, thanks for your reply. I persevered and was able to prise open one of the connectors and eventually get them to all connect in a stable manner.

I haven’t soldered since school so I was a little daunted by the prospect. Maybe next time!
