APSX RFID Module vs. ID-12 RFID Module

Hi

I would like to buy a RFID module but don’t know whether to choose one that operates at 13.56MHz or 125kHz frequency! I don’t care much about the data transfer rate, but rather I care much more about the distance that the module can read a tag.

I would like to buy a RFID module that can easily read a 2.5x2.5cm Round RFID Sticker within a 3 inch gap.

I have been looking at the following products but not sure which one to choose:

  1. APSX RW-210: robotshop.com/ca/rfid-direct-talk-application-RW-210-1.html

  2. APSX RW-310: robotshop.com/ca/apsx-rw-310-rfid-reader-writer-module-ttl-1.html

  3. Parallax Serial RFID Module: robotshop.com/ca/parallax-serial-rfid-reader-writer-module-2.html

  4. Sparkfun RFID Evaluation Shield with SM130 Mifare: robotshop.com/ca/rfid-evaluation-shield-3.html and robotshop.com/ca/rfid-module-sm130-mifare-3.html

  5. RFID Reader Module ID-12: robotshop.com/ca/rfid-reader-module-id-12-1.html

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

I have considered UHF RFID modules as well, but they cost way more and I do not need to scan RFID tags that far.
Let’s say there are two RFID modules, one with operating frequency of 13.56 MHz and the other one with operating frequency of 125 kHz; And they both claim to read a RFID tag at a distance of 7 inches. Do you know which one would be more promising? What I’m trying to find out is that does higher frequency mean a more reliable RFID reader or it doesn’t matter as long as I don’t care about data transfer rate?

All the products you suggest have very similar ranges and in those cases the carrying frequency does not matter too much. If you are looking for very large ranges then using higher frequencies (UHF) will be necessary.
