Applications for BlueROV2

Hi,

I am currently a PhD student in Dublin City University and my research group is looking to buy an ROV. I think that the BlueROV2 would be suitable for what we plan to use it for. We do a lot of water quality monitoring for fresh water lakes and rivers. I was hoping you could answer a few questions. Do you think this platform would be capable of attaching water quality probes to it for nutrient mapping on lakes? Also it is easy to attach the probes or could this be done before receiving the platform.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Many thanks,
Joyce

@joyceogrady Welcome to the RobotShop Community! Unlike many other small ROVs, the BlueROV is meant to be customized and sounds perfect for your application.

Note that you are saving a lot of money since this comes in kit form, so you’ll have to assemble it (water probes included). During assembly, you’ll get an in-depth understanding of the rover and be able to see how to add whatever additional parts like the water quality probe.

You may already want to opt for the temperature and pressure sensors if the water quality changes based on depth, and add an additional enclosure for all the additional electronics and sensors:

Read through the “What’s Included” section to ensure you understand what is included and what needs to be purchased separately. For example, note that the manufacturer does not include a handheld controller as standard since it may unnecessarily increase the product’s price for those who want to use something else. You will need to order batteries separately since the suggested batteries have issues with shipping (high voltage, high capacity Lithium Ion).
