Any robotic arm with position feedback software or hardware

Hi, pardon if this question has been answered in the past.
I am looking at the robot arm kits. What I need is a desktop 3 axis gimbal, but on a budget. The robot arms would suffice,
but I would need the position of the robot axis(s) available for logging. Could be dc voltage, serial, ect. pretty flexible there.
I would rather not go across the wiper of pot inside servo’s, but will if I have to.

Is there is a robotic arm combo kit that is best suited. Also I have trouble finding a speed spec on these arms. What is their max speed
in degrees per sec?
Thanks!

Hi solorsix,

It depend on the weight you need to move. Robot arms are usually not the best for Pan-&-Tilt systems because of weight issues.
We have a number of systems available in our Direct Drive Pan & Tilt section.

Something like an SPT200 Direct Drive Pan & Tilt System could work if you don’t have a big weight to move.

Systems that use servos don’t have real feedback options (unless you do a hack like you said) but if you use a Lynxmotion SSC-32U USB Servo Controller, you can request the servo’s position.
The function is described in the User Guide and search for “query”. It will give you the actual signal sent to the servo, not real position but this could be enough for your needs.

You might also consider a smart servo setup, though you would need to choose the servos, mechanics and electronics as there are currently no pan/tilt/gimbal kits using smart servos.
Smart servos have feedback such as temperature, position, torque / current and more.

All the best,
