I'm working out my understanding of capacitors, I'm a bit stuck on the differences between these 2:
Mono Cap from Jameco
vs.
Axial Cap from Jameco
I am trying to filter noise from motors/etc for an IR sensor, the recommendation from the mfg is to use a bypass/filter cap. Is there a difference in function or just form factor between these two? I would prefer to use the Axial cap, but I'm not certain if it will perform the same as a mono cap (disk). Thanks in advance!
You should use a 0.1uF
You should use a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor in paralel with the motor leads, directly on the motor. For some low quality motors like those in the Tamiya gearboxes, you also need to add 2 more capacitors, one from each motor lead to the motor case.
There’s very little
There’s very little difference between the two caps you linked to, except for form factor. Both are ceramic multilayer capacitors, same 0.1µF capacitance, same 50V rating, same 20% tolerance, etc etc.
Both are a good type of capacitor for motor noise filtering =)
