Algorithm Needed

Please provide me with another alternative with which I need to attain the following…

I have 12 numbers, each less than 300

 1. Need only 9 numbers or less to represent those 12.
 2. Each number in the derived number should be less than 300 too.
 3. Those derived numbers should be able to derive the original numbers back.

PLEASE HELP, SERIOUS HELP REQUIRED OR MY BOSS WILL FIRE ME!!! Kindly help.

Thanks!!!

Sounds like sometime in the past you misrepresented your abilitys to your boss.

LMAO !!!

well guys chillout…i really need a solution to this one!

Doesn’t mean you need to spam the boards and post it in every topic.

So how does this relate to robotics? From your request I don’t think you have a handle on what you have been asked to do. logical relationships are one to one unless some other variable or conditional logic is allowed.

dear crazyinstinct person, Please don’t post the same thing in several places. It won’t help get the information you are looking for. Please provide more information, what porogramming language are you using? What have you tried already. Curious, how does this apply to robotics?

why not use 3 variable to represent 2 of the numbers? and have them switch off every other time

Maybe this is the wrong forum to be posting in. Also if you want a fast reply, always be polite, and don’t spam by putting the message in too many spots.

Sorry guys for posting it at so many places…I don’t use much of forums so thought would get it noticed by more people as its a really challenging task…

Sorry but it was a general discussion so I happend to post it here, its programming related, not robotics. I use VB NET.

Dear Chunga, I don’t have access to the 6 numbers once i store into the three variables. So the original values are gone. Its at another point of time when I need to refetch those.

Thanks guys and sorry for posting at multiple places.

how about you actually tell us what you are trying to do, as opposed to asking about numbers to contain a number of numbers some number of times. it vaguely sounds like you are asking about bit-packing an array of values, but that is about as far as I can guess from your question.

Sorry EddieB, but it is confidential what I am doing and me and my colleagues have already thought upon the alternatives and reached a conclusion that we have to get this algorithm and there is no other smooth way out.

It is for a product that our company is manufacturing.

Kindly provide me with an algorithm. If its not possible to represent using 3 numbers, atleast 4 would do.

If total numbers = X, derived numbers should be atleast X/2 or somewhere around X/1.5.

Thanks again.

If I tell you the algorithm, do I get Royalties off every sale of product?
Are you incorporated or a Sole Proprietorship?

Why would we finish a product for you? It would be different if it were hobby related or you were upfront about it’s commercial intent. We are a good polite group of guys here but the way you are representing yourself is a bit troubling.

You might get better responses from the dotnet usenet news groups. They are accessable via google if you don’t have a news reader (you can use the "read news"in IE). Below is one of the google fronted usenet news groups.

I’m not going to help with your commertial venture. This forum is for hobby robotics. Please take your business elseware. Thank you.

:smiling_imp:

No one means to sound rude here but come on man. If you are making a new product, that is not a competing product with lynxmotion, we would be glad to help out. New products are always good. But the amount of information you are giving is not even close to enough to decipher what exactly it is you need.

And trying to recruit free help to finish a product you are supposed to be making, is wrong. If I need help finishing or testing a product, I would just ask. But I would explain what you are doing. And I would ALWAYS give credit to the people who helped me. Or offer some type of financial compensation if I stand to make profits off something someone else helped me build.

Good luck to ya.
