AL5D Not Responding

Hello,

New user to both the Lynxmotion robots as well as the forum! I have 7 AL5D arms as part of a PLTW class. So far they have proven to be OK. Meaning when you subject these to 60 students, I am often surprised when anything continues to work.

My problem is with one of my arms. I have been using the Arm Control Software that is provided for PLTW classes. This is a basic GUI that allows me to virtually move the robot as well as record sequences. When connecting the robot, there is literally no motorized movement at all. According to the students, it just stopped working (sureeeee). Anyway, I have tried various power supplies, a fresh 9V, and two different computers. The board will blink green LED and the correct com port is selected, but no response from the arm. This arm has been operating normally previous to its current state.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nick

EDIT: I switched out the SSC 32 board and still no go. I notice when I disconnect the wrist rotate servo, not only does the AC adapted have an audible change in noise, but the robot comes back to life. Is my wrist rotate servo shot? Would this cause the entire robot to stop working?

Hi Nick,

It’s possible it’s a problem with the wrist rotate servo. Can you try unplugging all the servos (confirm the software is still properly connected), and then connect only the wrist servo to see if the software disconnects?

To confirm, you are using the new software that says FlowArm PLTW in the top left corner, correct?

I unplugged the wrist rotate servo and the robot is working again. It appears after inspection that the wrist servo is indeed dead.
Is this normal? These were purchased last year and were used for a few weeks and then put away? Is there a warranty offered on any of the parts in these kits?

Thanks for the confirmation. Please send us a ticket in our Support Center (Exchanges department) with a reference to this page, your order number, and the model servo that’s dead and we can proceed with a replacement.

Best regards,
