AL5D Base rotation

Using “Arm Base Assembly Guide v2.1.”

After Step 9, my assembly looks like Figure 9, however, I have two questions about the rotation. Viewed from the top, my unit will rotate (manually - with power off) in only one direction, clockwise, and only for about 190 degrees.

  1. Is the rotation supposed to be limited in this manner?
  2. Is this the correct starting position, or (for example) is the base supposed to rotate (from the Figure 9 position) about the same amount in either direction?

Thanks,

Mark

The servo should be installed with the horn centered so it can rotate -90 degrees to +90 degrees. The servos are limited to 180 degrees total rotation.
Before connecting each horn to a bracket, the servo horn needs to be at the right angle. If you did not rotate the servo before connecting the brackets, then they are shipped centered. If not, the first time you power the arm, it might go to arbitrary positions. You will then need to remove the center screw, gently pull the bracket and servo horn away from the servo, re-center that servo (powered) and reconnect. An alternative would be to reposition the bracket on the horn (whichever approach works best for you). Note that it’s not possible to get it perfectly at 90 degrees, so there are software offsets needed afterwards.
