After finishing up on my autonomous rover projects about a year ago I didn’t know what to start doing next so I went dormant for a while. Now I’m starting my next project. The goal is to mount an airsoft gun on my rover and make it able to be controlled remotely over distances of ~300 feet. I intend for the bot to be used in real CQB airsoft battles so the electronics have been moved inside the chassis for protection.
I originally was going to mount two airsoft tank guns as seen on the mech warfare style BRAT, but wasn’t impressed by their low FPS rating. So I went with a cheap MP5 LPEG.
The trigger currently is mechanically operated by a servo but I do plan on getting a some pico switches sometime so I can electronically activate the gun.
Right now I’m testing out how well the pan and tilt work with the weight of the gun on it. The gun sways some when the bot make sudden stops or turns so I will need to mount it better in the future. Also, another major part of my project that still has yet to be done is how the bot will be controlled. I’ve been reading up on various threads over router bots and 2.4Ghz radios and haven’t made a definitive decision yet. Being a noob, I’m looking for the simplest most clearcut way to accomplish my goals. Any comments or suggestions are welcomed.
