that’s not what I wanted…I wanted something to program…like a kit or something with all the sensors and microphones…it will be AWESOME…It does not have to necessarily detect me…just someone. maybe some vioce recnog…that would be totally sick.
Surely the great RobotShop will be able to help me achieve this seemly simple dream…

So basically I plug in the board, hook up a mic. get some motion sensors and write the AI myself?
Can I put the board anywhere? What kind of power supply will it need? Can I hide it in my ceiling?

The board can be powered from 6V to 24V, very flexible. Any old wall adapter will suffice (atleast 500ma to power the RoBoard and Video Card, more if actuators and sensors need power) or a battery pack.
Yes, you could place it in the wall or ceiling and nobody would know it is there.
The only product that comes near your requirements is the Nabaztag. Since you are a programmer, you could add this funtionality using the existing RFID technology integrated into Nabaztag to identify people in its environment or via voice commands, although the actual RFID tags will be available at a later date.
Nabaztag is programmable BTW. It may not be what you want, but we made a suggestion after reading a two sentence explanation of your needs, and if you read about Nabaztag you will notice it does specifically what you asked for
In your case, you would probably be better off building your own robot with all the functionality you want, using specialized Robot Parts. Choose a platform, add electronics and sensors, then program it with your custom logic.
For voice recognition, a PC based solution is suggested due to the sheer processing power required. Perhaps the new RoBoard may interest you.
You can do anything you want today with robotics.
AI is very complex. To recognize who you are and inform you on current events, you’ll have to wait for Synopsis. Also, it will be possible to record, like an excel macro, movements and reproduce them just with a voice command. Synopsis is… my story and my dream. Actually, it can talk in 16 langages, it can open some basic programs with voice command, say you the weather, the time and date, read your new mails and much more. With the Create from iRobot, it will be possible to make him walk anywhere in my house and inform me. It will be an alarm system, a recognizer and eventually, a replacement from domotic.
