Afinibot A9 Warped Build Plate

Order #: 494283
Product #: RB-Aff-27 (Afinibot A9)

The printer work great for about two months then I started having issue printing. The print would stick to the bed and make a filament mess. It was fine before…

It took me a while to figure out the issue. Calibration wouldn’t help, adhesion type wouldn’t help, temperatures wouldn’t help… I eventually realized the build plate has a banana shape! Calibration makes the print fine on some edges but center is about 1-2 mm lower than edges. There is no way to put the aluminum plate back into shape to have flat enough to print.

I don’t recall of any collision or issues that could bend 3mm aluminum. I guess the print head would have suffered too but it is intact…

I started looking into getting a new build plate and ran into issues:

  • Although the size is fairly standard, mounting holes location is not.
  • Because of the unusual location of the mounting holes, normal heat trace applied to aluminum beds can’t be used. So Afinibot used an adhesive heat pad under the plate. I can’t figure out what they used…
  • I’m unable to figure out if the board would accept a regular RepRap heated build plate (power concerns). Power supply could easily be upgraded but will the board survive?

So I am stuck with a nice useless printer at the moment. Can you guys help me here? I’m kinda lost and sad I can’t print anymore.

Thanks for you help!

Dominique

Hi Dominique,

A warp of 1-2mm is a lot, it has to be dropped or forced to get this bend.
Have you tried to remove the plate and hammer the center on a flat surface ?
